Its obscuring of the gender barriers, consisting mainly of asymmetry which is designed to make people question the gender type of the garment. Its VERY clever (think blazers, "punk" style bondage pants, and victorian gothic!) Although there ARE some who go to one of the extremes and dress completely like the opposite gender. Example- Mana from Malice mizer in "typical" Visual Kei stage clothing. Yes, that IS a guy. And gackt (also malice mizer, also a guy.)
