I want to clear this up right now for everyone (get ready for an essay lol)..

So long as the emulator programs don't run contemporary games for the current platforms (ie. PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) there really isn't any problem with catching up on some nolstagia from back in the day. In most cases, the emulator itself is legal. Making backup images of your own games (ie. pirating) is a different matter and is something I have always been very against. Clearly, like I said, damage can be inflicted on game devs as their retail sales plummet because of their consumer base largely using pirated copies of games. This is exactly what happened on the old PSP models (ie. Homebrew software and hacks) and resultingly killed the platform.

The fact remains however that some of the best and most loved games only exist on the old consoles (ie. PS1 and Xbox). Since the production of both the hardware and games for these two platforms have been phased out totally, game devs and publishers have moved on to the current gen platforms. They no longer intend to profit from the old school gear. But that doesn't mean people can't enjoy the old titles anymore.

Emulators currently only deal with the old platforms and I hope that is the way it stays because as far as I see, it's legal because there is zero effect on the game devs and their T & C's layout the criteria for being legal. Personally I don't use them but I have in the past and they have worked fine. There are even rumours of Sony and/or Microsoft bringing out emulators for all sorts of old platforms on the current systems (PS3 and 360)

maybe some people can not afford these fancy systems or $60 dollar games and maybe they have 4 or 5 kids so downloading a game is a cheap way for them to do this for their children. But that is just me throwing that out there

Also, illegal! dibbles

Its not illegal if you own the games in America/Canada.

I like play main-staple games, because i've owned those games.

Well I might use this, but that's only because my original consoles are stored away in the basement and I don't feel like getting it, nor set it up. Plus, the games are not even sold anymore, and if they do, most likely used. And when its used, developers don't get money anyway.

Do you need a strong computer for this? daus26

Nope. You don't need a strong computer, but to be legal you would need to own the games.

I beat the crap out of SMB3 yesterday.
