I know you earn them as part of like an achievement system, and to use them you join a group, but what then? You join a group, and what happens with your merits? Oh and which groups is it smarter to join, ones with more merits or less merits? Thanks in advance!

These contests are hosted every week and month (to my understanding) You will donate merits to your team and to my understanding these team competitions will give a reward to the team with the most merits the week/month.

Start with offers and figuring out how to get them to approve. Or work on referrals. After you get the hang of these then you will start to gain lots of merits and only then do you have to figure out this team thing.
