I was wondering if youd prefered the anime in Japanese audio with English Subtitles or do you want them in English Dubbed. I like the original quality of the Japanse audio but I don't speak Japanese and I hate having to read the words while trying to watch them. I love the English dubbed because I can get into the show better when I understand what they are saying. |

Well as for anime I can't really comment, but practically everything here used to get dubbed, all the programs aimed towards children still get dubbed. I think dubbing is nearly always the worst option. |

I can understand not wanting to get a dubbed version of something, but if the voices match the body and the feel of the show or movie it is worth it. I was in Mexico last year and a real bad dubbed version of the show Bonanza came on. They had dubbed the show in Spanish the character of Hoss who is a real big guy was given the voice of a litle kid almost, and the character Little Joe was voiced by a guy that sounds almost like he could do opra it was such a huge voice. I have some anime also done that way that I only watch them in their Japanese audio. But there are shows like Bleach that are done really good were the voice talent works good with body of the show. |

I judge it on a case by case basis since I tend to watch things twice in order to have a full grasp of the story, some dubs aren't just translations of the original Japanese which can be a pleasant surprise sometimes such as the case in Desert Punk. Some dubs are bound to fail simply because some things can only be understood in context of the Japanese language and culture. I generally support dubs because it's a sign of the anime industry's expansion and it creates a larger consumer base. Dubs are getting better as the industry grows but the general lack of anime on TV worries me, makes me feel old when I no longer hear kids talking about Gundams blowing each other up or superpowered humans bashing each other in the face... Basically I like dubs because it's really the only effective way to introduce children into anime... who as they grow support the industry over here, which means I don't have to import things at much higher costs >. |

As long as the voices match the mouth flaps and I can understand what the characters are saying, I will go with dubs first. I know Funimation and some other companies have subtitles that are a literal translation of the Japanese script so I like to watch the subbed versions second to contrast and compare the two versions. It's almost as if I'm watching two different shows sometimes. |

Both, depends on the show and voice acting. For example, both the JP and US dubs for the original Gundam are both ok. |
