What will happen to you if you don't show up to Jury Duty in California?

parisiangirl77 US platinum Junior Poster Total posts: 78 Status: Offline	reply date: 2012-01-24 17:55:25 last edited on: 2012-01-30 20:01:55 Well,my friend who lives in Los Angeles got a Jury Duty summons in the mail about a year ago.She first called them in a frenzy,asking for a postponement,since she was taking care of her sick mother,who is pre-osteoporosis.I heard that after 12 months,if you don't show up,its either a contempt of court charge with 30 days in jail,or a $1,500 fine.My friend is really worried about it,since she has a clean record,& doesn't need this.Someone foolish tried to tell her to fake an excuse,but they wanted documentation,& she didn't have it.Personally,I don't believe in forcing someone to work,especially for such a pittance of a wage.Is anything bad going to happen to my friend,since she's going to the court soon to figure this whole thing out? My parents have to go like every 5 years, and take off from work to go! What a waste. Decent people don't need to got to jury... besides... if you are too biased, they don't want you anyways... Tell your friend to become extremely opinionated, because they want people who aren't biased and such! Good luck! (by the way, accidently clicked NO, i meant YES!)(sry)

If I were you I would just show up and get it out of the way... it's better than risking the chance of getting fined by your own gov't Good luck
