You mentioned unless they have common keywords, surely that wouldn't be totally untrue as we are all promoting the same thing at the end of the day I have to look in to Migueliscool advice on complex link exchange aswell. Should I stop at this or should I keep on asking members if they would be up for a link exchange? Thanks

Thanks silvijamck Actually it's true, a simple link exchange never works (especially if you're linking to a gaming referral website while your own website is in cosmetics). You would need to gather people together who have websites that have several keywords and a lot more in common for your links to actually mean something. So I was trying to say that your concept of a link exchange would probably not work because you're not going to be promoting the same rewards as someone else necessarily. Also, you're thinking of a simple link exchange. A complex link exchange works like this: 4 members. Member 1 links to member 2 member 2 links to member 3 member 3 links to member 4 member 4 links to member 1 a circle of linked sites with no reciprocal links would possibly work, but you'd need a good number of people involved, and they would still have to fit the similar keyword and content criteria.

And also make sure whoever you link to is actually indexed in google.
