Let's not pretend MegaUpload and MegaVideo were babes in the wood. They knew what their servers were being used for, what they were hosting, and whilst they may have taken down files or videos from DMCA requests, they certainly profited from what was left. They knew.
It's odd to think that the online activists who decry big companies for their greed are rallying behind huge multi-million corporate file storage sites like MegaUpload, who vacuum up millions of dollars of advertising revenue every day from copyrighted material, all squirreled away in bank accounts across the globe. Kim Schmitz's mansions, fancy cars and criminal record of embezzlement, insider trading and credit card fraud would make him a target of boos and pelted tomatos by the Occupy protesters if he worked on Wall Street, but on the Internet? It makes him the bastion of free speech and a hero. Bizarre. jimfish I don't know much about Kim, but that's horrible. I guess the internet and the real world are really two different worlds. |
