As I said in the shout - this is Classic Pretty Park Virus. It attaches to a download (commonly a toolbar like sweetim etc or when patching programs/hacked programs/torrents etc) and infects your dll registry keys, removing one or more file type associations. if you follow this guide, it should restore this for you
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/233243-default-file-type-associations-restore.html Download ONLY the zip file for the extension that is missing and let it work ALL the way through
Good luck ^_^ |

haha you shouldn't download without first checking to see if it's secure - if you have a good anti-virus, it should scan ALL downloads before they reach your machine.. Also - this is why we recommend sandboxie!! Just be cautious with your downloading and you'll be fine- I had the pretty park virus last year and luckily while being a Nasty piece of work, it's easily corrected, providing your virus scanner catches it before it infects ALL your dlls. The pretty park activates when your virus program removes it - so basically, it sits idle on your machine and runs itself when deleted - Nasty huh?! |

thanks again bobdaul It's faster for me than trying to fix it xD and it's simpler since my hard drive is split in 2 partitions, when i have a problem I install the OS on the clean partition and just copy my files from old install scanning each file with my AV

LOL! so you're saying it takes less than 5 minutes for you to reformat and reinstalling OS ?! I highly doubt that
and that doens't get rid of the problem entirely if the virus attacks both partitions.
With SOME viruses- if they attack the dll files (like the Pretty park) it can actually do more harm than good if you reload the OS as you're just re-deleting the core problem and not fixing it - why spend ages reinstalling it if you can just replace the dll file that was missing? |
