The only reason I don't though is because it seems kinda unfair for the people who might not have 500 extra points to be pushed to the back of the order line simply because they don't want to spend/don't have extra points to spend on expedited shipping.

Or am I not getting this whole discussion? I don't understand how we can make the merchants ship any faster. From my experience, the merchants already have a set of shipping suppliers and method, whether it'd be first class or such. I don't think we can pay them extra so that we get faster shipping. What we can do, is if there is an option when we order directly from Amazon, as they always have 2-day shipping and delivery option. As for merchants other than Amazon, I don't know if there's much else we can do about their shipping methods. *edit If this is about the admins reviewing orders by priority of those who paid extra, I disagree and vote no. Then again, I'm still unsure what this is about.
