I feel ya. I had a couple of rabbits ran away, and one of them was caught and returned by a neighbor of mind. Unfortunately, there wasn't much that I could do, and it may be the same for you. 
Sorry to hear about this. Best you can do is ask your neighbors around, if that's where you lost him. That's what I did. I also posted up pics in the neighbor hood mailboxes.
