While it is wonderful to have so many active members, and those that are willing to help out in shout, I think that there are far too many occurrences of members being rude towards others. I don't mean the general and usual spam and name calling, but a more serious issue. IF a member has account issues, or has broken the rules, they will be handled and dealt with accordingly. What we seem to be getting at the moment is a lot of members responding with comments such as "Oh you're going to be banned now" and "don't be stupid" or even worse - "Just go away" and "moderator Can you ban this idiot" While this might seem "fun", "necessary" and like you're helping, what it actually does is have the opposite effect. It causes unnecessary stress for the member, who might not even know that they have done anything wrong, as well as causing tension across the whole shout box, with other members joining in. Telling people that they should "just leave the site" is NOT the right course of action, regardless of what the members are saying . The whole point of the shout box is to encourage a sense of community, and welcome new members. Imagine yourselves as new members to this site, visiting for the first time, and all you see is countless people telling "new" members that "you'll be banned" and "just go away" as well as the other rudeness and bickering that is in shout - you'd be turned away would you not? I would just ask that in these circumstances, it is better to just politely explain the situation, inform them of the rule that is broken and how they should go about resolving it in a calm manner. If this cannot be done, then simply stay out of the situation and leave it to the moderators to handle, or simply direct them towards the discussion and support forums where someone might be better able to help them. This site has us moderators for a reason, and if one of us is active in shout, it is preferable that any tense or questionable situations be left to us to deal with. We'd hate to lose new members - imagine if said member was your own ref - you'd be the one to lose money from their banning if the situation escalated. I'm sorry that I have had to post this, but I feel that a gentle reminder every now and then can only serve to better improve the community spirit and lessen the burden and stress to all members!
