My grandfather couldn't swim until he was in his 30's-40's. He later went on to become a swimming instructor and taught lifesaving. I couldn't swim until a bit past the average age for Norway and my family but I managed in the end. After I got rid of the habit of doggy paddling across the pool and started to use my legs like a frog. Also helps to start out with a flotation device.

Tenebris US (CA) bronze New Poster Total posts: 14 Status: Offline Date of Birth: 86-08-01 Total Earnings: $3.85	reply date: 2011-07-26 20:30:02 well, sinking like a brick, is the best way to learn to swim, it might not make sense but it is, i didnt learn how to swim until i was like 13 or 14, but i have always being in and out of the water, even jumping in the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim on top of the water, what i did back then was learned to hold my breath under water, when under and holding you breath, you know for how long you can be down, and you can move and do whatever, when running out i would just let go of the air, stick my head out and get another mouth full of air and get back in, my mom hated that cause she never knew where i was in the pool, but eventually i learned to swim properly which i still do do that often. but the only way to learn is by just doing it for you, dont let other tell you you cant, just learn and show them whos the boss of you.
